DIY Essential Oil Rub To Avoid the Holiday Sniffles

Looking for a way to stay healthy this holiday season? Try this DIY essential oil rub to keep those holiday sniffles at bay!

(Be sure to enter the giveaway at the end of this post!)

I still remember my daughter lying on the couch on Christmas day listening to the rest of the family enjoy the festivities in the other room. A very not-so-merry virus had hit her and she couldn’t enjoy that holiday much at all. And I was right by her side sharing in her misery, because that’s what moms do.

Things could have been worse and I’m a firm believer that we can find something to be thankful for in every situation, BUT I like my children to be well as much as possible, and especially when they are looking forward to an event, such as a holiday!

My children do take vitamins, homemade probiotics, immune herbs, and eat healthy foods to support their system, but I also like to incorporate essential oils!

I’m going to share a simple DIY essential oil rub that you can use especially this holiday time of year when candy and baking are plentiful and your kids need that extra immune boost!

DIY Essential Oil Rub For the Holiday Sniffles

Let’s first talk about the power of these oils!

Clove Essential Oil

Use to relieve nausea, fight germs and bacteria. Buy here

Do not use this oil under age 2.

Lemon Essential Oil

When I think of lemon oil, my first thoughts go to its awesome smell and how great it works in homemade cleaners and room sprays, but this oil is also a good choice for illness! It’s a disinfectant, and it promotes lymphatic drainage, which helps you get over colds faster! Buy here

Cinnamon Essential Oil

Besides smelling like Christmas, cinnamon essential oil is also cleansing, relaxing, and helps support the respiratory system. Buy here

Do not use on children under age 10.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil

Eucalyptus is a great disinfectant, and also relieves colds and stuffy noses. Buy here

Do not use under age 10.

Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary relieves congestion and coughs, as well as having antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties. It is said that judges in the middle ages burned rosemary to ward off any illnesses that people may bring to the place of judging. Using the essential oil has the same benefits! Buy here

Do not use on children under 10.

Tea Tree Essential Oil

This oil contains terpinen, the active ingredient responsible for the antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties. Tea tree oil is probably the first essential oil I was introduced to years ago. We still use it to protect ourselves from viruses, bacteria, and mold by inhaling itBuy here

Speaking of the holidays…

The giving season is upon us and I have partnered with 22 other bloggers to give TWO families $500 Paypal cash in the 4th annual Christmas Blessings Giveaway!

Our hope is to bless two families this year by allowing them to fulfill their kids’ Christmas wishes, pay off a bill, or to help build up their nest egg.  Whatever the money ends up being used for, our prayer is that it helps to lessen any financial burden and/or fills a specific need.

You can earn a lot of entries using the Rafflecopter form below. I know it can seem tedious and time consuming to go through all the entries, but isn’t a chance at $500 worth it? I think it is! Plus, if all of these generous bloggers didn’t participate, we wouldn’t have been able to have such big prizes! So I hope you will take the time to go through each entry. Who knows, maybe you will find some new blogs to follow.

The giveaway will run from Monday, November 13th through Wednesday, November 22nd (ends at 11:59pm EST). Winner will be notified by email shortly after the giveaway ends and will have 48 hours to respond to claim the prize or another winner will be drawn. You must have a Paypal account to win.

Such a generous idea! It would be such a blessing to help make my three boys’ Christmas more magical in a time where a dollar doesn’t stretch as far as I would like it too! Thanks for the opportunity!

  2. Theresa Hoff says

$500 to be won at this time of year would bless anyone! We are a family of 9, homeschool, farm, and both my husband and I work part time out of the home. This would certainly bless us immensely to help us along. Our kids do not expect the world given to them and work hard as well. Ages 19, 16, 14, 12, 12, 6, 6. The older ones work to get the things they would like and and on occasion, some things they need. Thanks for the giveaway!

  3. Janelle says

This giveaway would be a blessing for our family by being the difference between being able to travel over my husband’s Christmas break and staying home. We love our home, but every year my husband gets several days off around Christmas and because of how our babies have been timed, this is the first year that we’ve had the option of using those days for a family vacation…but it’s so expensive to go anywhere that time of year. The giveaway would give our budget a significant boost!

    Hi Jill!

Do you have any recipes for immune-supporting and illness-fighting essential oil rubs/combos that ARE safe for little ones? I have a two-year-old and a six-month-old and I want to help keep them healthy, but it seems that so many of the oils that are best for fighting off illnesses aren’t safe to use with little ones!

Also, that $500 would be a huge blessing for my family– we’d probably be able to pay off a few bills and provide our kids with an amazing Christmas. 🙂 Thanks for sharing the giveaways!

  5. Julie says

It would enable me to buy supplies to begin producing some of the herbal balms, tinctures and recipes that my friends and family would like to purchase. It would give me the financial jump start I need to get going.

  6. Desba C Silvers says

What a generous idea! Could sure use it, for either bills, gifts for grandchildren, or repairs, it would be a welcome gift!

  7. Kathy says

This would be a blessing for our family because my husband just had hip surgery, and neither of us is working right now to deal with his recovery.

  8. Amy N. says

This year has been tight financially. This giveaway would bless us by giving us a little extra cash to help pay down our bills and be able to give more to others, too…

  9. Lorie says

Thank you for your very generous offer. Winning this giveaway would help our family to purchase a few items that would help with our ongoing shift to a more healthful lifestyle.

  10. Kari says

Hi, I’m sure there is someone out there who could use the money more than me. However if we were chosen we would use it for Christmas. My 4 kids this year sold cinnamon scented pin cones to earn the money to buy each other Christmas presents. Thank you Jill for the recipe for an essential oil roll on. I’m just getting started with essential oils and so far love them!

  11. Amy says

Thank you for this, and especially the care to say what ages the oils are safe for. I have 4 kids under 7 and am very careful to only use kid safe oils. Do you recommend just leaving out cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary, for a kid safe blend, or are there effective alternatives?

  12. Shirl trowbridge says

I love all your recipes for oils! We have struggled with many things since my husband was in a car accident 7 years ago and money is one of them. This would help with bills or possibly down payment on car I need since mine is falling apart.

  13. Heather Amos says

Since we can’t afford Christmas this year, this would truly bless us. We could afford to get some gifts and a few things we need around the house.

  14. Dawn E Brown says

This would help us to live a healthier lifestyle. Thanks much for all of the info you share. It is a real blessing/Dawn E. Brown

  15. Rebecca W says

I would put this money towards Christmas for my sister’s family. They serve the Lord faithfully through missions in Africa. I have not been able to spend a Christmas holiday with her family in many years. I would love to make it a special time for their family and make many happy memories together.

  16. Cheyenne says

Love your blog! This is a great blend! What would you recommend in place of cinnamon if I don’t have any on hand?

  17. Debra E says

Thank you for the wonderful recipes.
Winning this would allow me to have my almost 20-year-old car repaired and allow me and my family some hope this holiday season. Thank you for the chance to win this generous prize.

  18. Hailey says

$500 would be a huge blessing to our family! We are working towards living off grid…and all the changes that entails are not always cheap. Thank you for this chance!

  19. Sarah says

My husband had major back surgery last year and was out much longer than we’d anticipated. We’re still digging out of the debt hole. This giveaway would help us so much! I’d love to give my family a great Christmas as well as pay a few bills.

Thank you for the blend. I’ve been on the hunt for a new cold blend and this sounds like it’ll be heavenly to smell!

  20. Eunie says

We are two seniors, married for 53 years and rejoicing in the LORD’S goodness!
Blessings to you and joy in the LORD

  21. Lady E says

Winning this $500 would be such a blessing to help pay our bills, and also help us with the higher costs of living a healthy lifestyle. We just recently moved, and having $500 would help offset the expenses that come with that. Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. says

Thanks for the all of the good information here Jill. I’ve only dabbled in essential oils and use them mainly for congestion and anxiety. It’s good to have a reference that provides more comprehensive information. Thanks again for sharing!

  23. says

Great article! I like your recipe. Can you tell me which carrier oil do you prefer to use in this blend? Does it make any difference if I use coconut oil or jojoba oil?
