I recently put together a favorite home remedy for burns. This recipe can be used for minor burns, and also for 3rd degree major burns with great success.
1 part Comfrey
1 part Raw Honey
1 part Wheat Germ Oil
Mix these ingredients together and store in glass jar with a lid. Keep in a cool, dark place, like a cabinet. When applying to burn, make sure to cover the burn with half-inch of the paste and cover with a bandage made for burns that will not stick, or cover with a soft leaf and wrap with gauze. Check the burn a few times a day and reapply more paste on top of the original paste to keep the thickness at half an inch. Do not remove the original paste until the burn is healed.
Don’t have comfrey or wheat germ oil on hand? You can buy comfrey here, and wheat germ oil here for great prices. This comfrey comes in a cut leaf form, so you’ll need to grind it with a coffee grinder or a mortar and pestle. I really encourage you to grow your own comfrey this year so you can use it for *free* for burns and many other remedies.
If you don’t have these ingredients, but have an emergency? Immerse burn in cold water until heat leaves the area. If you have a minor burn, you can use aloe vera as a soothing relief. Also mustard powder mixed with water can really help a minor burn. If you have only one of these ingredients mentioned above (comfrey, wheat germ oil, raw honey), you can use it alone, but they will not do as well by themselves as they will all together – especially for a serious burn. Nothing will heal the skin, especially for a serious burn, like comfrey. I know of those who have healed a burn with the above recipe better than a doctor visit.
Be sure to have this burn remedy on hand if a minor or serious situation arises!
