Home Remedies For Strep Throat

Strep throat is a contagious infection caused by the streptococcal bacteria. Symptoms normally include fever, sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. Redness, swelling, white or yellow patches are often present on the tonsils also. How do you know if you just have a sore throat and not strep? Strep throat normally runs a high fever of over 101, though sometimes strep doesn’t include a fever. A sore throat will not be as bad with something like a cold, whereas strep will be very painful. Also, patches on the tonsils are a good indication of strep, and swollen lymph nodes, as already mentioned. Lymph nodes are responsible for trapping and destroying germs which causes the swelling.

What are some remedies you can use?

These are the things I would do:

*Take colloidal silver at least 3 times a day – I would likely take it 5 times that first few days.  Colloidal silver has been proven to *effectively kill the strep bacteria.

*Use Dr. Christopher’s Strep Blend:

1 Tbs. Raw Honey
1/4-1/2 tsp. Cayenne
3 cloves grated garlic
~Mix honey and cayenne together, and add garlic.  Give 1/2 tsp. every 1/2 hour – chew it up and swallow it.  This remedy kills strep withing 24 hours.  I would take this every 1/2 hour for a day or two.
*If you are experiencing pain from the strep or sore throat, you can gargle with 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper in 1/2 cup warm water for relief.
*I would also add echinacea.  I really like Double E Immune Booster.  I make tinctures with it to take, or make a strong tea to drink throughout the day.
*Of course Vitamin C is always good to take when sick

*Eliminate all sugars and unhealthy foods – they will only hinder recovery and prolong your sickness.  Instead eat broth made from a whole chicken (not the canned broth).
*For a fever, there are several herbs that can help.  One is adding 1/2 cup of dried sage to 1 cup of boiling water and steeping for 15 minutes.  Take 1 tsp. every hour as needed.  You can also gargle with this tea for sore throats.

NOTE:  I begin remedies as soon as any symptoms appear.  I don’t go to the doctor to see if a person has strep first before treating.  Home remedies help save money! 🙂  You want to begin remedies as soon as the first signs show before the sickness really takes hold.  Most of the time when taking such actions as above, you will not experience as severe symptoms that you would if you weren’t doing these things (which is GREAT! – I love helping my family not suffer as much! :))   With these remedies, you may not experience a sore throat or white patches on the tonsils (and most likely won’t).  Even if you don’t actually have STREP, all of the remedies mentioned above is good for any illness, and will *effectively kill and treat strep if you do have it.  Some people worry about using remedies for “strep” if they don’t know for sure if they have it.  But all of the above remedies are safe and good for any sickness you may have!  I always start any sickness with colloidal silver and echinacea, with rare exceptions.  There are certain sicknesses that other herbs are better for, but the remedies above are great for strep or sore throat!

Why don’t I want to just go to the doctor for antibiotics?

Because antibiotics wreak havoc on the immune system.  Click here to read more.  I am thankful for antibiotics in case of a life-threatening situation though!

And please use common sense – if a person shows no improvement and only worsens, see a doctor! 🙂

If the colloidal silver is made correctly, there should be no risk of the skin turning blue. Thanks for the question!

I have a 4 month old and I have had strep throat 3 times since she was born. Unfortunately I have had it so many times I usually don’t feel the pain in my throat first. It is usually pretty bad by the time I realize I have it. My whole body aches, my head hurts and I have chills. I am praying I won’t get it again. I am taking Olive leaf extract to help prevent it (I hope). Can you take the silver if you are nursing?

May I use the same amount for my children? My 6 year old JUST had strep throat, but shows signs of it again.. I do not want to do antibiotics again. I have the strep blend goodies, so I can make that. What kind of echinacea.. Tea or tincture? My time to order the double immune and use it right now will not be a choice as I have sick babies now, I will definitely order and keep on hand.. Thank you..

Typically, children should use half the amount that adults do. Hope your child is better soon!

My poor girl has had recurring strep for the last 2 years (it comes back every 3-4 months). her gag reflex is so bad that I have tried the honey, garlic, cayenne recipe and she ended up vomiting before she got anything down. Its been awhile since I’ve tried, so I am going to try again today. I now live in a country where cayenne pepper is not available. Can I skip this ingredient? I can find spicy red pepper. Or is there something else that may work? She is 6 years old. Should I give 1/2 tsp every half-hour or cut down the dosage? Thanks so much…

You can try this Throat and Tonsil Tincture. Make one pint of echinacea tea. While the tea is still hot, stir in 1/2 cup fig syrup and 1/4 tsp. cayenne. Add 1/4 tsp. of peppermint oil. Stir well.

Mix 2 droppers of this tincture with 4 droppers of water. Gargle and swallow every hour. For a smaller child, mix 1 dropper of tincture with 3 droppers of water and administer hourly.
I hope she is better soon!

Since you don’t have cayenne, you could try another catalyst herb like ginger.

Your body just cannot handle one of the ingredients if you’re throwing it up. I have also used vitamin C, colloidal silver, and elderberry successfully with my children. You can read it here:
