The Reasons I Don’t Use a Microwave

Because microwave ovens are so convenient and energy-efficient, it’s hard to find a home or restaurant in America without one.

But why would other countries ban the use of them?

How can they have a toxic effect on our body?

Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy that travel at the speed of light.  Every microwave contains a tube that produces microwave length radiation which interacts with the molecules in food.  The resulting friction causes substantial damage to food molecules, often tearing them apart or deforming them, thus resulting in the formation of new compounds called radiolytic compounds unknown to man or nature.

God simply did not create our bodies to process foods that have been warmed or cooked with radiation. Microwaves degrade food and create changes in the blood of those that consume microwaved food – a better name for a microwave oven would be “radiation oven”.

Never microwave baby’s milk.

We’ve all heard this warning these days from doctors and professionals, and yet some mother’s still do just that.  Microwaves convert breast milk or formula into a substance that is poisonous to the nervous system and the kidneys.  I’ve always wondered why mother’s were warned about using microwaves for baby’s milk, but not for other foods and drinks.  If we know that microwaves change the structure of milk, depleting it of nutrition, why aren’t there warnings for using it – period?

Here are some studies that have been done using microwaves:

The following is a summary of the Russian investigations published by the Atlantis Raising Educational Center in Portland, Oregon. Carcinogens were formed in virtually all foods tested. No test food was subjected to more microwaving than necessary to accomplish the purpose, i.e., cooking, thawing, or heating to insure sanitary ingestion. Here’s a summary of some of the results:

(Note: Carcinogens are cancer-causing)

a. Microwaving prepared meats sufficiently to insure sanitary ingestion caused formation of d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, a well-known carcinogen.

b. Microwaving milk and cereal grains converted some of their amino acids into carcinogens.

c. Thawing frozen fruits converted their glucoside and galactoside containing fractions into carcinogenic substances.

d. Extremely short exposure of raw, cooked or frozen vegetables converted their plant alkaloids into carcinogens.

e. Carcinogenic free radicals were formed in microwaved plants, especially root vegetables. Decrease in nutritional value.

Russian researchers also reported a marked acceleration of structural degradation leading to a decreased food value of 60 to 90% in all foods tested. Among the changes observed were:

a. Deceased bio-availability of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics factors in all food tested.
b. Various kinds of damage to many plant substances, such as alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides.
c. The degradation of nucleo-proteins in meats.”

Here are some side effects that can occur from using a microwave (from Robert O. Becker’s book, The Body Electric):

“It’s [Microwave sickness] first signs are low blood pressure and slow pulse. The later and most common manifestations are chronic excitation of the sympathetic nervous system [stress syndrome] and high blood pressure.
This phase also often includes headache, dizziness, eye pain, sleeplessness, irritability, anxiety, stomach pain, nervous tension, inability to concentrate, hair loss, plus an increased incidence of appendicitis, cataracts, reproductive problems, and cancer. The chronic symptoms are eventually succeeded by crisis of adrenal exhaustion and ischemic heart disease [the blockage of coronary arteries and heart attacks].”

I have personally not used a microwave for at least 7 years.  I warm my food up with a toaster oven or on the stove – this may take a few more minutes to do, but it’s worth the extra time considering my family’s health.  I may not be able to keep myself and my family from all of the toxins in our modern technology world, but getting rid of my microwave is an easy step in the right direction. πŸ™‚

We had a microwave for years, but as I didn’t really trust it, we only used it to defrost meat and heat rice socks. Several years ago I had read about the changes in blood after consuming microwaved food, and the microwave was promptly put in the trash. I just emailed this post to my uncle, a bachelor who microwaves leftovers regularly. Thanks for posting!

We used to keep ours in the garage…but now have one inside. It is used less and less. It means less time for other things and.more dishes but worth it.

Thanks for the tips about this. I hate to admit to using the microwave but it does save a ton of time. I just need to quit.

I haven’t used our microwave in about a year, however my kids needed to be slowly weened off the microwave, first I kept it unplugged and then I moved it to the laundry room. It makes it very inconvenient. I think I am just about ready to take it away completely. (I know I am the mom, but these are older teenaged/twenty year old kids who grew up with it – babysteps I have to use babysteps!)

I completely understand, Christy! I am careful to not be pushy either. If my husband wanted a microwave around, I wouldn’t force the issue on him. πŸ™‚

I haven’t had a microwave ever since I got married (5 years)! I didn’t know anything about the dangers of microwaves back then, but it always concerned me because of what I heard about radiation. Plus, when people say “just nuke” it in the microwave.. well, that got me leery! πŸ™‚ Now, that I know more about its dangers, I thank the Lord for showing me it was the right decision, because some people thought I was crazy for not having one πŸ™‚
