How To Cleanse and Heal the Liver

It is my opinion that everyone should cleanse and tone their liver.  The liver is a vital organ and it’s very important to keep it healthy.  The liver is the 4th area in the cleansing order that I recommend.  Click here to read the cause and symptoms of a damaged liver.

Here are some of the top herbs that cleanse and heal the liver:

  • Turmeric
  • Ginger
  • Indian Gooseberry
  • Dandelion Root
  • Licorice Root
  • Burdock Root
  • Milk Thistle
  • Hawthorn Berries
  • Astragalus Root

The Bulk Herb Store has an excellent Liver Cleanse Combination called Liver Cleanse Tincture.  You simply buy the mix of herbs and make your own tincture out of it!  Shoshanna recommends making an alcohol tincture with these herbs because there are some very hard herbs in this mixture and the alcohol will do a better job of breaking them down.  Also, the alcohol will help carry the herbs straight to the liver to do its magical work.  If you prefer to do a glycerin or vinegar tincture, you can; it may not be quite as effective, but it will still do good.

You can also buy a liver tincture.  A great company is Mountain Meadow Herbs.  I personally prefer to buy the mixture and make my own because it saves a LOT of money!  The mixture from Bulk Herb Store makes about 3 pints of tincture for less money than buying 2 oz. already made!   This is a huge savings!  I’m all about saving money, and I love to make my own medicines because it’s fun and easy!

I also like to pour some of my finished tincture into a smaller dropper bottle for convenience.  I take this tincture 3 times a day and the bottle makes for easy travel.  Save your old tincture bottles, or buy them from the Bulk Herb Store.

Bulk Herb Store’s Instructions for taking the tincture:
1 dropper 3-5 times a day for 3-6 months.  If you have a more seriously damaged liver, continue to take 1 dropper 1-2 times a day for 2 years.  I plan to take this tincture for 2 years because of my more seriously damaged liver {which was damaged from me ignorantly taking too many antibiotics}.

Watch below as Shoshanna gives instructions for making an easy liver tincture!

Excellent post! I enjoy making my own, too, because it’s just fun! 🙂 It brings me such happiness when a big box of herbs are delivered to my door. 🙂

I’m working through a liver cleanse at the moment, not only to improve my health, but also hoping it will ease morning sickness, if we’re blessed with another little one.

No measurements for the different herbs were given in the video, does it matter how much of each is put into the tincture?

I buy the liver mix from the Bulk Herb Store when I make my tincture. They don’t have the recipe on the bag and I don’t know if she uses equal parts. Sorry!

It's a good idea to plant them right before a rain so the rain can help spread and germinate the spores.
