It’s always amusing to see the reaction I get when mentioning to someone how nutritious stinging nettle is. To many people, stinging nettle is know as a biker and jogger’s nightmare that grabs at the ankles of passersby, leaving quite the stinging sensation to the skin. A person can think you are absolutely crazy when you start actually recommend consuming this plant. But, the good news is, is that the stinging hairs on nettle are deactivated when cooked, and it is one of the most nutritious herbs available.
Nettle has been used as food and medicine since ancient Greece and Rome. It’s highly prized as the perfect herb to add to vitamin tinctures and to use for healthy infusions. It’s also high in vitamins and minerals, plus proteins and flavonoids.
Besides these benefits, nettle is used for:
- Growing Pains
- Allergies and Hay Fever
- PMS
- Fertility Troubles
- Menopause
- An Energy Booster
- A Diuretic {I loved this herb for keeping the water weight away during pregnancies, which I bought right here at the Bulk Herb Store! This herb is also included in the Mama’s Red Raspberry Brew, which is my favorite pregnancy tea.}
Nettle is also loved as a food! And not just any food – chips! We all love chips, and what’s better than making them healthy?
