Summer is such a fun time of year, but dealing with pesky bugs and potentially harmful bites is not!
Using commercial bug spray that contains the toxic chemical DEET is no option for my family, so here are a few easy and quick bug spray recipes that you can safely mix up and keep on hand.
Recipe #1:
5 drops lavender oil
5 drops citronella oil
5 drops lemon oil
3 tablespoons vanilla extract
Combine all above ingredients into a spray bottle. Fill bottle with half water and half witch hazel. Shake before each use.

Jill,
Just popping in to say, ‘Hi’! I hope you and your family are doing very well in the Lord 🙂
I have made variations of both of these. I also like Rosemary or Tea Tree added. I find that Vinegar of the 4 Thieves still works the best for us, but we smell a bit like salad dressing 😉
Blessings!
Thank you – great to hear from you! 🙂
Can you safely use lemon eucalyptus oil on children? A 5 year old?
Thank you!
Yes, over the age of 2 is safe. Just be sure to properly dilute! 🙂
Thank you!
